Cystoscopy with Consultation Appointment

Some patients are triaged directly for a combined cystoscopy and consultation. In select circumstances this allow us to provide the most efficient level of care by expediting a diagnosis. Cystoscopy allows us to evaluate the bladder and other areas of the lower urinary tract.

A cystoscopy is an examination of the inside of the bladder (the baglike organ that stores urine in the body) using a thin, flexible, tube-like telescope called a cystoscope. This instrument is carefully passed up the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) and into the bladder. A cystoscopy is useful for finding out what is causing your symptoms, or as a check-up for certain bladder conditions. Because the doctor will only be looking at this time, any problems you may have had before the Cystoscopy, such as pain or blood in your urine, will still be there afterwards

Please review the Frequently Asked Questions below. If you have additional questions, our team is happy to help. Please contact our office during regular business hours.

What can I expect during my cystoscopy?

You will be seen at the Royal Jubilee Hospital Diagnostic and Treatment (D&T) Unit  for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. The procedure itself typically takes about 5 minutes.

Local freezing will be used for the procedure. You will remain awake and able to drive yourself to and from your appointment.

No special preparation is required, please simply arrive at your scheduled appointment time.

My appointment is running late.

Every effort is made to ensure appointments run on time, and we value your time. However, wait times may occasionally be longer than expected if the surgeon is required to attend to an urgent or emergency situation.

We appreciate your patience and understanding, as this is a publicly funded healthcare system and all patients will be seen as efficiently as possible.

If you leave the office before your appointment has begun, it may be considered a no-show and may be subject to a fee, unless otherwise approved by our staff.

What should I have ready for my appointment?

Please have the following information available for your appointment, along with any additional information our office has requested:

  • Your medical history

  • A list of your current medications

  • Any allergies

  • Your email address

  • Any completed forms requested by our office

  • Results of any laboratory tests, imaging, or other investigations that were requested prior to your appointment

Completing all requested forms and investigations before your appointment helps ensure your consultation is as efficient and productive as possible.

What do I do if I forgot about my appointment?

All missed appointments are subject to a no-show fee, as missed visits place additional strain on the publicly funded healthcare system. A missed appointment also prevents another patient from being seen by the surgeon. As appointment availability is limited, we require a minimum of 2 business days’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling.

If you are experiencing fever, chills, diarrhea, cough, cold-like symptoms, or any signs of infection on the day of your appointment, please call our office and do not come in person.

As our physician sees many patients with various autoimmune and other health conditions, we aim to minimize any risk to Dr. Bacsu, our staff, and other patients.
